Shoyna, it is a small fishing village, located on the shore of the White Sea. This place is considered as the most northern desert in the world, and local people face not only the problem of cold weather, but also with sand, which inevitably comes home. However, it was not always so.


This town was founded in the 30s of the last century: the abundance of fish made possible the emergence here of a thriving business and already in the 50s the population of the town has increased to 1,500 people, and the fleet had more 70 boats. However, the peace did not last long.



Due to the heavy use of trawls and uncontrolled fish catch, this was drastically reduced, and thus began the inevitable decline in production, which led to a low of work. However, it was not the worst: the consequence of this was the problem with the ecosystem.


Heavy trawls not only emptied the fish of the sea, but also destroyed the vegetation. And now the sand of the White Sea, is extended by todala region by the wind, turning it into a desert. And half of the population has been buried under the dunes. It takes only a windy night so that the sand cover the roof.


The village has a bulldozer to help locals who resort to this quite often: sometimes have to dig up some houses in a row. One of the precautions - Do not close the door at night, otherwise there is a possibility that in the morning can not open it.


In 2010, the population was 300 Shoyna people living mainly on their pensions and benefits. However, there is a school, kindergarten, medical and obstetric centers and power station. The only connection to the world - are flights that take place once a week flights from Arkhangelsk and Naryan-Mar. And the loads are delivered by sea during the navigation season



Oddly enough, but the people who live here, have become accustomed to the sand. And their children have also been used. It seems they have no plans of anger elsewhere. It is a pity that has destroyed the econología of this area, where nature was a rich time. And this is happening all over the world.
